The New York State United Teachers was joined by the New York State Education Department, the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and the National Board Council of New York to honor New York state’s Class of 2024 National Board Certified teachers this week.
Forty-seven new National Board Certified teachers were recognized as well as 72 others who maintained their certification. They join more than 2,300 National Board Certified teachers statewide.
Among the honorees were educators from the Ballston Spa, Broadalbin-Perth, Cobleskill-Richmondville, Middleburgh, Niskayuna, Schenectady, Schuylerville, Shenendehowa, Stillwater and Windham-Ashland-Jewett districts.
Widely known as the “gold standard” of the teaching profession, NationalBoard Certification is considered the most respected professional certification available in education.
“It is a demanding and reflective journey—one that requires persistence, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to excellence,” said NYSUT Executive Vice President Jaime Ciffone. “We celebrate your success today, knowing that the impact you make in your schools and communities will be felt for generations to come.”
According to NYSUT, they consider certification the “gold standard” of the teaching profession.
“By completing the voluntary, rigorous, peer-reviewed process, this exceptional cohort of educators have shown their deep commitment to student learning and demonstrated their expertise in teaching to the highest standards,” the organization said in a press release on Feb. 14.
NYSUT said they strongly support national board candidates, and said certified teachers have positive impacts in schools statewide.
