CLIFTON PARK - A Schenectady County man has been arrested, accused in a cross-state money scheme that involved victims in Greene County and near Buffalo, along with fake checks cashed in Clifton Park, New York State Police said.
Jason A. Cruz, 43, of Schenectady, was arrested on warrants recently with three counts of fourth-degree grand larceny, felonies, and other charges, police said.
The investigation began in August 2022 as police received a complaint from an Erie County resident reporting fraudulent bank activity, police said.
That investigation determined that on the same day, Cruz allegedly attempted to cash a forged check in Troy, resulting in the theft of more than $1,000, police said.
Police then received another complaint later that month from a Greene County resident, also reporting fraudulent bank activity.
That investigation determined Cruz possessed two fraudulent checks cashed at financial institutions in Mechanicville and Clifton Park, resulting in the theft of more than $7,000, police said.
