A 14-year-old Schenectady student has been arrested for allegedly threatening via Snapchat to fatally shoot a peer on school grounds, Schenectady police announced Sunday.
The male suspect from Washington Irving School has since been charged with a misdemeanor count of aggravated harassment, according to a news release.
Administrators notified Schenectady police on Saturday at 11:30 p.m. regarding the menacing remarks.
Investigators discovered that the threat was allegedly issued after a fight earlier in the week. They arrested the teen after visiting him and his family.
No gun was found. Currently, there is no threat to the public, officials said in the release.
No other information on the alleged perpetrator has been provided, due to his age.
Schenectady police didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
It’s not clear when the message was allegedly sent.
In the release, authorities said that they have continued to work closely with school officials on the case.
“Thank you to those who shared information and to all of you for your continued support and cooperation,” the Schenectady City School District wrote in a Facebook post. “Please continue to remind students if they see or hear anything that seems suspicious to always report it to an adult.”
