The UAlbany women’s basketball team’s Kayla Cooper and Colleen Mullen were named America East Player of the Year and Head Coach of the Year, respectively, on Wednesday.
Named First Team All-Conference for the third year in a row, Cooper earned her first America East Player of the Year award after leading the team in points per game (17.4), rebounds per game (6.8) assists and steals. Her scoring average ranked second in the league.
The graduate student also finished the regular season second with a .556 field goal percentage and a .824 free throw percentage.
In her seventh season as UAlbany head coach, Mullen started the season with the best 10-game start in program Division I history, with just one loss, including an upset over Syracuse.
The 24-5 Great Danes posted their fourth straight 20-win season heading into a quarterfinal game as the No. 1 seed against New Hampshire at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at Broadview Center.
In other awards for the Great Danes, grad transfer guard Jessica Tomasetti was named Second Team All-Conference, grad transfer Kaci Donovan was named Third Team All-Conference, and freshmen Delanie Hill and Martina Borrellas were named to the AE All-Rookie Team.
Cambridge High School graduate Lilly Phillips of Greenwich was named to the America East All-Academic Team.
