ALBANY — John Sarcone III will serve as the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of New York.
Sarcone's appointment by U.S. Attorney General Pamela Bondi was announced in a press release Tuesday. He will begin on March 17. His office will be responsible for prosecuting federal criminal offenses and representing the United States in civil litigation in the Northern District of New York as well as the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
Sarcone, who will be based in Albany, will oversee 49 Assistant U.S. Attorneys, 4 Special Assistant U.S. Attorneys, 41 support staff members and nine contract support staff members. The district encompasses 32 counties with offices in Albany, Syracuse, Binghamton and Plattsburgh.
"I am deeply humbled and honored to have been named U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of New York," Sarcone said in a statement. "I shall carry out my duties faithfully and with steadfast dedication to our nation, community, and the citizens of the Northern District of New York."
The legal practitioner has previously served as the Northeast and Caribbean Regional Administrator for the U.S. General Services Administration as well as the town attorney for Eastchester in Westchester County. He also started a firm that provided legal advice to small businesses and family-owned corporations in matters such as real estate transactions, arbitration and insurance defense.
Sarcone hails from Croton-on-Hudson and attended Croton High School in Westchester County before earning his law degree from Pace University's Elisabeth Haub School of Law in Pleasantville.Â
