ROTTERDAM — It’s a summer tradition: Muddy Sneakers, Tiger’s Blood, and…sour cream and onion?
Curry Freeze has been serving up scoops of its homemade hard ice cream for more than 50 years in Rotterdam, attracting scores from around the Capital Region each season, who lineup to get a taste of the homemade waffle cones, classic flavors and more exotic creations, that we recently sent several of our reporters to try.
“We want people to talk about what we’re doing,” said owner Robert Draiss, the store’s owner.
The latest offering that has been turning heads is that sour cream and onion flavor that is served with potato chips and boasts a creamy texture with a kick of sour cream on the back end that Draiss said has been the surprise hit so far this summer.
“We’ve had a lot of people coming like, ‘Oh, can I try that?’” he said.

For those feeling less adventurous, there’s the vanilla soft serve covered in birthday cake dip — a favorite of Draiss — or the Muddy Sneakers, a white-chocolate-flavored ice cream that features chocolate peanut butter candies, chocolate flakes and caramel swirls.
Looking for a dairy-free option? Try the blueberry pancake flavor made by Perry’s Ice Cream with oat milk and a tinge of mouth-watering maple syrup. There’s also the Italian ices, which are sweet and flavorful. The Tiger’s Blood is a combination of watermelon, strawberry and coconut.
Those looking for (more than) their fair share, have a few options, including the chocolate-dipped cheesecake — a slice of creamy cheesecake from The Cheesecake Factory, dipped in crunchy chocolate and served on a stick. Then there’s the Glazed and Confused — a heavenly combination with vanilla ice cream sandwiched between two glazed donut, then dipped in chocolate. Bring a friend.
Then, there’s the homemade waffle cones, a perfect crunch for any frozen treat. Looking to share with a friend? We recommend the waffle cone nachos that are served with ice cream, whipped cream and chocolate sauce.
