Troopers: Domesticated rats found in cage on Mayfield roadside

The investigation began at about 10:15 p.m. Monday as troopers responded to reports of an animal cage on the side of Route 29 in Mayfield, police said.

The troopers soon found the cage and inside found the four domesticated rats, police said.

The rats were then brought to a warm and safe location, where they appeared to be doing well, a state police spokesperson said.

Troopers then took to their statewide Facebook page, posting photos of the rats and appealing for information on the owners.
