CASTLETON-ON-HUDSON — The Ichabod Crane boys’ volleyball team saw a familiar result Thursday night when it beat Hudson in straight sets to win a fifth consecutive Section 2 Class B title.
The Riders won 25-17, 25-17, 25-16. They found resistance early during each game, going down 1-0 in the first, 4-2 in the second and 3-2 in the third before pulling away each time.
Senior setter Eben Krein said Ichabod Crane has found ways to work through early nerves all season.
“We start out kind of slow," Krein said. "But I think once we get our energy out, once we get focused, then it’s all us.”
Krein recorded 26 assists and two aces, while senior hitter Caden Tiernan led the team in kills (10) and digs (five). Fellow senior hitter Connor McDarby tallied a team-best three blocks in addition to his seven kills.
Hudson setter Anthony Florio recorded eight assists for the Bluehawks while outside hitter Anthony Garcia led the team in kills with seven.
Ichabod Crane improves to 19-0 with the result, and will finish its season in Saturday’s regional championship at Westmoreland High School versus Section 3 champion Chittenango, in which the Riders hope to capture their first regional title and undefeated season in five years.
