ROUND LAKE — Five people were displaced following a Monday fire at the Northway 11 Apartment Complex in Round Lake.
Round Lake Fire Department responded at 3:47 p.m. to the call of a structure fire at the complex, according to a social media post by the fire department. When they arrived on scene, they found heavy fire coming from one of the units and a common attic area.
“Crews attempted an aggressive interior attack but were withdrawn when the roof began to fail,” the post stated.
The crews then moved to an exterior attack of the building using four ladder trucks.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The Red Cross aided the four adults and three-year-old child displaced, providing them with financial assistance that could be used for shelter, food and clothing, according to a press release from the agency.
“Volunteers also offered emotional support, comfort kits containing personal care items, blankets, and stuffed animals for the child,” the release stated. “In the coming days, Red Cross staff and volunteers will remain available to help those affected by the fire as they navigate the road to recovery.”
Multiple agencies responded to the scene.
