SCHENECTADY— Classic cars will line the streets of the Stockade as local food and craft vendors sell delicacies and handmade goods as part of the inaugural Stockade StreetFest later this month.
Set for Sept. 28 in conjunction with the Stockade Association’s annual Historic Homes Walkabout tour, the festival will transform the historic district into a daylong complimentary street fair.
Stockade Association member Ryan Solghan developed the idea for the street fair with Stockade Association President Colleen Macaulay, with the group hoping to provide extra value to the estimated 1,000 people who are expected to descend on the neighborhood on Sept. 28 for the yearly tour of the district's historic homes.
“We wanted to design an event that would be held in conjunction with the already immensely popular Historic Homes Tour,” Solghan said. “We wanted to draw even more people to our neighborhood and give ticket buyers even more to do that day.”
The festival will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m on North Church Street between Front Street and Union Street, with the fair offering a display of vintage cars as well as local food vendors, antique shopping, and clothing and jewelry vendors.
Solghan said the association hopes to make the street festival an annual event.
The fair organizers are seeking antiques vendors, local artists and vintage clothing dealers to sell their wares at the festival, with applications available at historicstockade.org.
Solghan said the street fair will cater to people of all ages.
“The Stockade StreetFest has vendors of all types and also will feature a classic car display, so there really is something for all ages,” he said.
During the street fair North Church Street will be closed to vehicle traffic, with the streets lined with vintage cars and vendor booths.
The 59th edition of the Stockade Walkabout will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 28, with advance tickets available for $25 through the historic association's website.
The annual stroll will feature actors and musicians portraying denizens of Olde Schenectady, with exhibits of artifacts from the historic district on display at the Schenectady County Historical Society.
